Job description

Overview of job

Our client is one of the International Universities in Ho Chi Minh City and are looking for a Senior Developer.

The Senior Developer is responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of various systems used by the University, including student administration systems, web-based systems and data integrations. In addition, the incumbent will make contributions to the transition from existing systems to the University’s new strategic platforms including PeopleSoft, ServiceNow, Salesforce, and various systems managed by our client. The incumbent will work with internal clients to capture requirements and support the test process. The incumbent will work together with other ITS teams in Vietnam and Australia to follow deployment and change management processes. The incumbent communicates well in an English-speaking, international environment.

Reporting Line

Reports to: Manager, Applications and Development

Key Accountabilities

1. Take shared responsibility over software architecture, quality assurance, security, and documentation of software.

2. Design and development applications using a variety of programming languages including PHP, Python, HTML, Javascript, and Livecode.

3. Design and develop new systems and new functionality using a variety of frameworks for back-end development and front-end development.

4. Design, develop and document data integration scripts and APIs.

5. Provide expertise in database development including schema design and writing SQL queries.

6. Collaborate with business stakeholders at the University to understand business requirements, and support the documentation of user requirements and acceptance criteria.

7. Work closely with other team members and other ITS teams (including Australia) to ensure the team follows professional software development processes, and follows the University’s change management process.

8. Participate in Scrum meetings, and encourage Agile development processes.

Job Requirement

Key Selection Criteria

1. Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.

2. At least five years of experience in software development, preferably with international organisations and/or working with clients abroad.

3. Demonstrated skills to work with internal clients and other teams, preferably in an English-speaking environment.

4. Experience with a broad range of web programming and scripting languages.

5. Experience with front-end programming frameworks and/or back-end programming frameworks.

6. Experience with database development, preferably MySQL. Experience with NoSQL is an advantage.

7. Experience in working with the Scrum or Kanban framework, and agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.

8. Experience using cloud services such as AWS and Azure is an advantage.

9. Experience with migrating to new systems, and handling data migration is an advantage.
