POSITION SUMMARY

Senior System Engineer is a specialist in leading and coordinating the relevant technical teams within the ICT team, to create, design, implement and maintain all system infrastructure for RMIT Vietnam. 

The Senior Systems Engineer has considerable technical expertise and solutions focussed background with a focussed approach to providing relevant infrastructure and platform solutions, including but not limited to Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure), Virtualization, Servers, Storage, Windows & Linux Operating Systems.

This position serves as a specialist resource to a diverse range of internal stakeholders on system and platform related issues and best practices, and will monitor trends in standards and emerging technologies, applying developments as appropriate to ICT related projects, and following RMIT process and procedures. 

This position will have expert knowledge of RMIT VN system infrastructure to provide relevant, accurate technology solutions as required. 

Although there are no direct line reports to this role, the Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to be an excellent team player, highly approachable, authentic, with a passion for lateral thinking and continuous improvement and an advocate for coaching and mentoring more junior members of the team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Knowledge expert of all technical aspects relating to of Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).
• Document and process map all corporate server / storage / platform infrastructure.
• Manage day to day platform infrastructure design and review as well as projects to ensure the timely delivery and the ongoing maintenance of server and platform infrastructure to meet the requirements of the University.   This includes producing and maintaining detailed project documentation, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with project progress and evaluating the project outcomes. 
• Provide detailed design, and design review in consultation with Manager, across the whole platform infrastructure at the University.
• Manage individual projects to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of digital content that meets the quality standards initially agreed. This includes producing and maintaining detailed project documentation, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with project progress and evaluating the project outcomes. 
• Lead and drive the research into technology business solutions and support the implementation and/or review of systems and technology that support the RMIT Vietnam business. 
• Analyse, troubleshoot and provide systems business solutions to server and platform related issues, with a view to increasing efficiency of corporate system infrastructure.
• Lead by example, coaching and mentoring other IT team members to support both personal growth and career progression
• As an IT team member, contribute to develop and/or enhance policies, procedures and systems to support ‘best practice”
• Remain up to date with all industry developments relating to system / platform and cloud technologies
• Develop, lead and work on special and cross-functional projects or activities as requested by Line Manager. 
• Provide expert advice to internal ICT stakeholders with regards to standards and practices and serve as a resource for the resolution of complex system related questions.
• Review, analyse and test library management system features relevant to the creation and maintenance of descriptive metadata and related processes.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• At least 5 years of experience in a System and Cloud Engineering related position, with certificate in AWS SA-A And Certified MCSE (and/or Linux LPI is desirable). 
• Extensive experience across the infrastructure stack which includes technologies relating to server, storage, virtualization, and tools are also expected. Database management experience is desirable. 
• Extensive experience working with Cloud Computing technologies: AWS, Azure. Certified AWS or Azure is desirable.
• Experience within a Directory Service stack. (Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, GPO, AD Federation, SAML, ADFS, Multi Factor, Azure AD connect)
• Intensive Experience working with VMware, Hyper V, & Azure 
• Experience in taking briefs on and creating logical and physical design documents.
• Experience in managing multiple ICT related vendors to support the provision of hardware and software solutions across the University. 
• Experience of managing software projects with milestones, risk evaluation cost estimates and implementing operational design documents. 
• Excellent experience of automation, system monitoring, process development workload automation and virtualization capacity management concepts.
• A deep understanding and passion for new technologies with an aptitude in using a range of software applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team and with ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders. 
• Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills with a proven record of flexible approach to work
• Proven record of problem solving and analytical skills to deliver quality outcomes.
• A mature and agile approach to working with stakeholders, with excellent verbal and written communication skills (strong English proficiency skills)
• Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position and RMIT Values.
