Job Purpose

Backup System Operator is responsible for maintaining the stability, availability, and security of backup infrastructure and related IT services. The role supports backup operations, monitoring, incident handling, backup strategy implementation, and data recovery activities to ensure committed SLAs and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain backup infrastructure and related IT services. 
• Ensure backup system availability, stability, and recovery readiness in compliance with committed SLAs. 
• Perform backup checks, troubleshooting, incident handling, and corrective actions. 
• Deploy, maintain, upgrade, and optimize backup systems and related technologies. 
• Implement backup strategies, data recovery processes, and security solutions. 
• Manage backup configurations, system assets, operational procedures, and infrastructure standards. 
• Monitor resource utilization, maintain capacity planning, and improve operational efficiency. 
• Participate in change management, configuration management, and CAB activities. 
• Coordinate with related teams and vendors to resolve incidents and improve service quality. 
• Prepare operational checklists, reports, and technical documentation.

• Degree in Computing or Information Science, or Postgraduate Diploma in Computer or Information Science. 
• Minimum 3 years of experience in backup infrastructure operations or related system administration roles.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure including Servers, Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Tape Libraries, De-duplication, Encryption, Compression, and Synchronization technologies. 
• Hands-on experience working with operating platforms including Windows, RedHat, AIX, and VMware. 
• Understanding of DC–DR infrastructure standards and backup architecture. 
• Experience operating and administering backup and archiving systems using leading vendor solutions. 
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues on backup systems during operation. 
• Experience working with enterprise backup products and backup solutions. 
• Strong understanding of backup strategies, data recovery, and infrastructure management. 
• Good communication and technical reporting skills. 
• Ability to work effectively within highly technical teams. 
• Awareness of current industry trends and applicable technologies. 

Nice to Have

• Experience with enterprise backup, archiving, and disaster recovery solutions. 
• Experience designing or optimizing backup and recovery strategies. 
• Relevant infrastructure or backup-related certifications.
