Overview of job

Position Summary / Primary Purpose of the Position (In Brief - why does this position exist?):

The Database Engineer is responsible for the secure and effective operation of all databases of all BUs, related applications, and software that is used within a wide range of CRV. This position is a stakeholder facing role and requires that you establish and manage expectations within the business and drive the IT team to achieve those expectations to a high standard.

Key Duties & Responsibilities (but not limited to)

• Optimize databases to improve performance

• Develop, manage, and test database back-up and recovery plans

• Design develop and maintain business reports for other departments

• Design and write queries to extract data for ad hoc requests from other departments

• Write and maintain database design documents

• Monitor Quality Acceptance testing and User Acceptance Testing of the database

• Troubleshoot and provide root cause analysis of major incidents and problems

• Internal team training on anything database related

• Maintain and administer databases in the test and staging environment

• Prepare database deployment scripts and assist with production deployment

• Assist Developers and Testers with database activities

• Implementing and managing backup/Restore/DRP procedures

• To implement quality processes within IT to ensure that the processes are properly adapted and implemented within the IT operational teams.

• Follow up the processes:- Incident Management, Problem Management, Configuration Management, Release Management.

• Owner of the Incident, Request, Change and Escalation processes, ensuring high levels of performance in these processes, accurate reporting and establishing service improvement

activities when required.

• As the owner of the escalation process the System Manager will take ownership of major incidents to ensure coordination of resolving parties, effective communication to

stakeholders, and post-incident review.

• Monitor, control, and support service delivery; ensuring systems, methodologies, and procedures are in place and followed.

• Be accountable for the quality of Service and performance; ensuring future demand from growth and projects is understood and factored into capacity plans for all associated

systems.

• Drive internal and third-party service review meetings covering performance, service improvements, quality, and processes.

• Report to the infrastructure and Platform Manager to provide regular updates on the status and progress of the database projects and initiatives.

Job Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or another related field.

• 4+ years previous Managed Big Scale system in variate platform: Linux/Open-Source

• Minimum of 4+ years’ experience in database development and administration. 

• Strong experience in Database Performance Tuning and Query Optimization

• Good experience in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, NoSQL…

• Demonstrated in IT Service Management functions, including but not limited to Incident Management, Problem Management, Knowledge Management, Service Requests and Outage Response/Resolution

• Have an extremely positive/cheerful 'can-do' attitude

• Good team player, proactive character and able to multitask.
