As a Data Engineer you will be responsible for detecting and identifying patterns in the data sets of large customs installations.
You are required to mine all available data for evidence of revenue leakage due to undervaluation or corruption. This process involves the configuring of existing tools – or even writing your own. The result of this investigation and report may even influence policy change in a given country.

Your Skills and Experience
- Use data to identify operational issues and determine the causes of revenue loss across large customs administrations.
- Work with the site team to create reports destined for presentation to upper level government.
- Collaborate with nation officials to determine the necessary data required to achieve your goals.
- Develop and train custom machine learning analytics tools to help solve common such as undervaluation, fraud and risk management.
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, software engineering or similar.
- Minimum two years of experience in IT industry, with a role involving data analysis.
- Intermediate English (verbal and written).
Desired
- Master’s degree in the above fields.
- Customs or trade experience is highly beneficial.

Technical
- Extensive practical knowledge with one (or more) of the following: Qlikview or QlikSense, Tableau, Microsoft PowerBI or the Cognos suite.
- Strong programming ability in R or Python.
- Operational understanding of enterprise databases such as: Oracle, PostgreSQL, MariaDB or MySQL.
- Understanding of database schema design. Familiarity with ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) processes and query optimization.
- Ability to see patterns and trends in data, and make strong arguments as to their root cause.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, supportive and professional manner. The ability to maintain confidentiality where required.
- Prioritisation of work schedules amidst competing deadlines and completion of accurate reporting.
- Ability to self-motivate and be accountable.
- Flexible and able to adapt within a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
