TymeGlobal is building a multi-country digital banking group, focused on emerging markets in Asia and Africa. We are driven by the conviction that broadening economic participation will unlock human potential. We are based in Hong Kong and Vietnam with ~150 people across these two locations. In 2019, we launched our first digital bank in South Africa and have since acquired more than 750,000 customers – making us one of the fastest growing greenfield digital banks in the world. We plan to expand into more emerging markets within the next few years.
Summary of the Head of Design role
We are looking for a talented and hands-on Head of Design to deliver engaging user experiences and prototypes that will delight our customers. You will lead and grow the design team working in close collaboration with an agile development team and the rest of the business to deliver world-class digital banking solutions. You will ensure design quality and elevate our level of craft, but roll up your sleeves when needed to participate in the design process.
To be successful in the role you will need to possess broad experience in user research, wire-framing, prototyping, user experience, user testing and visual design. You will bring a passion for meeting the needs of individuals and small businesses through a range of banking products, and a deep understanding of the benefits that financial technology can bring to customers’ daily lives. The role is in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
We are seeking a motivated individual who:
- Is a design visionary:You can define and reimagine our design philosophy and translate that into tangible design principles. You are a change catalyst for better experiences and interfaces. To achieve this, you can build better design process by architecting and evangelizing a unified Design System across the organization. We expect you to break the rules and redefine them, to help us create the future for the company and our customers through your designs.
- Is strong in the design craft: You have an eye for pixel-perfect detail and possess a strong blend of interaction and visual design skills and design principles. You have an affinity for consistency, color, typography, and a keen eye for subtle details. Despite this, you have the ability to zoom out from the design detail and weld your design craft to drive strategic business outcomes.
- Has a great understanding of customers: You research your end-users. You understand business needs and constraints. You push yourself out there for a chance to connect with customers, so you know their pain-points and work restlessly to solve those. Your world class user-centered design takes into consideration research, business drivers, customer segments and usability feedback.
- Is a strong influencer: Our stakeholders and team members have years of experience in product development and are a tough crowd when it comes to customer experience. You will need to be pursuasive, confident and know your audience, so that you can communicate sophisticated design concepts and help them see, understand and empathize with the customers whose solutions we develop products for.
- Is a people leader:You will be required to grow the Design team, guide and inspire them, and inject in them the confidence to operate independently without supervision. You will be expected to mentor and develop your team members and grow the design culture within the organization.
- Is a collaborator: Our team spans 3 countries and is expected to grow even bigger in the future. You will collaborate with people from different backgrounds, mindsets and cultures. Being in this interdisciplinary role, you need to be able to interact and build relationships smoothly across functions.

Your Skills and Experience
To be successful you will have:
- Strong design expertise; mastery of visual, communication and interaction design principles
- Fluency in designing entire products and articulating a design system, from information architecture and interaction down to the visual language of individual controls
- Fluency in creating designs and artifacts throughout the entire product development lifecycle such as journey maps, wireframes, prototypes
- Deep understanding of how design impacts development; ensuring designs are not overly complicated and costly to develop
- Proven track record of shipping out high-quality product design to the market
- Experience in a variety of design tools including Photoshop, Sketch, InVision and Zeplin, and the ability to prototype rapidly using these design tools and code like HTML and Javascript.
- Experience with mobile and tablet design standards (iOS and Android)
- Be a natural collaborator in a team environment and have experience leading a team
Qualifications:
- Ideally at least 5 years’ experience as a User Experience Designer, Interaction or User Interface Designer
- Ideally 2+ years in a design leadership role
- Fluent in English
- Willing to relocate to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction or a related discipline is highly desirable
- Certified Scrum Product Owner is a plus
- Relevant work experience in UX Research, Product Design, UX design, Visual Design is advantage
